The FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre is set to host a full day of performances, activities and hands-on workshops for young audiences this Family Day (Monday Feb. 17)
in downtown St. Catharines.

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show is based on the books by Eric Carle and will be presented in Partridge Hall at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Master puppeteer Frank Meschkuleit brings Treehouse TV’s favourite cat and mouse duo to life with Toopy and Binoo Live at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in Robertson Theatre.
  • A Film House presentation of Babe

Free family activities and furry friends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Algoma Central Lobby

Presented in partnership with Vansickle PetValu, we’re packing the lobby with real furry friends and fun activities including free face painting and colouring/activities. Give a high five to Vinnie, the PetValu Mascot, and get to know some of the furry ambassadors of Therapy Tails and rescue dog programs in our community. Pick up a book from Someday Books, try out some kid-built STEM video games with the Code Ninjas and learn more about animal programs from

Welland SPCA, the El Salvador Mission team from Shelter Canada, Billie Jo Horvath of Groomingdales and more!

FREE finger puppet drop-in workshop! (10 a.m. – 2 p.m., The Recital Hall)

Come put your crafting talents to work with friends from Niagara’s own Carousel Players. Make your own Very Hungry Caterpillar  or an Ooga Monster from Carousel Players’ upcoming play, Lig & Bittle.

FREE drop-in animated short films! (10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., The Film House)

Pop in to enjoy an assortment of new and classic Canadian animated shorts from the National Film Board’s (NFB) collection for the whole family. Titles include THE CAT CAME BACK, LUDOVIC – THE PIG CAME BACK and THE ANIMAL MOVIE. Drop in anytime and stay as long as you like. Alson join us in the Cogeco Community Lobby just outside the Film House for some free colouring and crafts too!
